How do I upload CST data?

To upload CST data, you'll first have to create a Schoolzilla web account. 

  1. Visit https://schoolzilla.org/register to take the first step.
  2. Fill out the form, and click "Submit."

Once you've created your Schoolzilla web account, you can upload your CST data in two different formats.

Format #1: You can upload the file you received from the state (REC 1 .txt file).

  1. Once you're logged in to your web account, click "Upload Data" in the top navigation bar.
  2. The "Upload Data" page will ask you, "What type of data are you uploading?" Here, you will find a side menu on the left where you can select "California State Tests."
  3. Select the "Full CST Results File" option.
  4. Select the school year for which you're uploading data.
  5. Click the "Upload" button, and select the REC 1 file you'd like to upload.


Format #2: If you don't have the original file from the state, you can fill out an Excel template and upload your data via an Excel template upload.

  1. Once you're logged in to your web account, click "Upload Data" in the top navigation bar.
  2. The "Upload Data" page will ask you, "What type of data are you uploading?" Here, you will find a side menu on the left where you can select "California State Tests."
  3. Select the "Upload Excel Template" option.
  4. Click the "Schoolzilla CST Template" link to download the template.
  5. Fill out the template following the formatting rules and instructions included in the template.
  6. Click the "Upload" button, and select your saved template file.

Once you've uploaded your file, we'll begin processing your data right away.  Depending on the size of your file, this processing may take a few minutes, so feel free close the website.  We'll email you as soon as your file has processed. :)
